Paper Folder Glossary Common Folds Used on Folders

OMR - optical mark recognition reads the print marks on your paper and is able to collect and insert papers

Feeder - a tray that holds paper and is connected to the paper folder

Roller - this mechanical device cycles the paper through the folder and outside the folder

Insertion "finger" - these are tabs used to open the envelope so that the folder can be inserted. A common problem with paper folder inserters is that the insertion fingers become out of alignment with the envelope, and the folded paper is not inserted correctly.

Catch Bin - this is where the folded paper is placed after it cycles through the machine.

Fold blades - folds the paper into various folds

 

Zig zag fold - folds three ways and resembles an accordian
Single fold - paper folded down the middle
Double fold - paper folded twice, similar to letter fold
Double Parallel - paper folded three times and most common fold for brochures
French fold - paper folded across the top and down Baronial fold - this fold is used to create envelopes
Gate fold - a tri fold commonly used for brochures
